NDFC switch replacement with different model

Hi all

From the documentation "Cisco NDFC Fabric Controller Configuration Guide, Release 12.1.x" it's possible to replace a Switch using the RMA Flow. It is simple if the old and new devices are of the same family with the same number of ports.

If the new device is a Nexus, with a different number of ports, is still possible to use the RMA procedure? Maybe using the Manual RMA Flow?

Thanks

Stefano

Hi mrflorida,

Thank you for the feedback. Ultimately, we solve the problem by simply deleting the old one and replacing it with the new one using POAP process.

No this is not possible since the new switch has different port count, and HW features. Basically you need to add the diff model as a new switch and delete the old one. (green field the new switch) Basically the fabric parameters will automatically cfg fabric ports, vpc and mgt and FF you may have in there. Before you replace the switch you can download a user port csv and modify as needed and upload back to new sw. Then any FF templates, vrf, networks that were applied to old one need to be attached to new one.

Yes POAP a new switch is basically greenfield a switch. When you poap a new switch you can provide more configuration when switch is poap'd in. If not it will get fab params applied. However then you will have to apply vrfs and networks and cfg user ports. In other words.. the only cfg carried over to new switch are fab params. You need to re-config/apply the remaining cfg to new sw.
