HA Clustering, not using VIP

Hello experts,

In looking at the HCC function pack documentation ( https://community.cisco.com/kxiwq67737/attachments/kxiwq67737/5672j-disc-dev-nso/2621/1/tailf_hcc.pdf  ); it appears that if you plan on doing geo-separated HA (Say, London, Paris, Hong Kong) as a single HA cluster, then VIP is a requirement.  

Is there any way to run HA Framework without doing VIP?  Documentation doesn't appear to support that, but maybe I'm reading it wrong.

Yes, you can run it without a VIP if you want, the VIP is used to make sure clients always talk to the active NSO.  If you can setup a different mechanism to point the clients to the correct NSO you do not need a VIP (maybe you have an HA framework that informs the clients for instance).
