Google Fiber setup, but the DNS is not resolving.

So, I set up the openDNS addresses through my routers settings page. My router is Google Fiber's newest model, which DOES allow custom DNS being set up. I also set up the dynamic dns hostname, which is required. When I go to the command prompt window, though, to try out nslookup I get an error message: "No internal type for both IPv4 and IPv6 Addresses (A+AAAA) records available" Google searches tell me this means that DNS is not resolving. I also used ChangeIP's Homing Beacon service, after I set up an account with them for the dynamic dns service.

Anyways, I think there are other Google Fiber customers around who have successfully set this up. I've reached the limits of what Fiber tech support can help with, so I'm hoping someone here can help.

"I also set up the dynamic dns hostname, which is required."

Required by what?  I'm not aware that it is required or can be used by OpenDNS, because OpenDNS does not offer dynamic DNS services.  That may be the reason that there are no address (A + AAAA) records in DNS.

Copy & paste the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic command here:

nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.

"Google searches tell me this means that DNS is not resolving."

This finding was unfortunately wrong, or "alternative facts" as one starts to say recently.  It just tells that there are no A and AAAA records, but that it might exist in DNS and could be resolved if you queried it correctly, i.e. with the right existent record type.

Ah, my bad, to clarify, the Fiber support person was working with said I would need to set up dynamic dns along with putting in the OpenDNS addresses. Maybe they were wrong, I took them at their word.

Anyways, I copy and pasted the command and all it said was: "UnKnown can't find debug.opendns.com.: Non-existant domain"

This would indicate that you don' t use OpenDNS at all.

Welp. Maybe you can't set up custom DNS on a Fiber router, in spite of it having custom DNS fields. Not sure what else to do at this point.

You post the output of the above command, so that one can see what's going on.
