When I launch the updater, it shows my Open DNS account and network to update, but no IP address is listed and says I'm not using Open DNS.
I have the correct DNS server addresses entered.
I logged into my account to verify my actual IP address is the one registered, and it is.
I flushed the DNS resolver cache and still not working.
What am I missing? Thanks.

If it says you are not using OpenDNS, this comes first. Then any remaining issues can be addressed.
--You have the correct DNS server addresses entered *where*?
----If on router/gateway, you have to make sure you don't have any static DNS address entered in the computer, other than the address for the router. In the router, you have to make sure *all* fields requiring a DNS address are filled with unique OpenDNS addresses.
----If on computer, make sure your router/gateway or ISP network is not overriding these. If you have a network proxy, this won't work either.
Please run the following commands from the command prompt and paste here. *Trailing dots are part of the command*
nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.
nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com. 208.67.220.220

The computer is set to 'obtain DNS server address automatically'. On my router (Linksys E900) I have the following addresses entered in the three static DNS field: 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 & 208.67.222.220.
Here's what I received after running the two commands:

It can be clearly seen that you don't use OpenDNS, but cdns01.comcast.net [2001:558:feed::1].
Disable IPv6 connectivity, either on the router or on the computer for this active network connection, or don't configure any IPv6 resolver addresses, and you should be fine, as can be seen from the second output.

I have the same problem except one minute the updater says its connected and a few minutes later it says its not. When I go to my dashboard it has the right ip address for my network plus shows my activity.
I have manually entered the OpenDNS IPv4 and IPv6 addresses into my router. If I check using a browser everything is as it should be even though the updater says no. I'm thinking about uninstalling the updater because it clearly doesn't work consistently.
If I enable AiProtection on my Asus RT-AC88U router when the updater is connected it immediately disconnects. If I disable it the updater continues to say its not connected. I'm a big boy so I can just go to my dashboard if need be and update my IP if it should ever change. Use the link below to verify that you are using OpenDNS and if you get the check mark don't worry about the updater.

If you don't run an update client, then your IP address information is not kept current, and your dashboard settings don't take effect.
Post the complete plain text outputs of the diagnostic commands from above, so that I see what the problem may be.

I put my router back on comcast and the updater behavior didn't change. LOL
01-28-2018 06:19 AM
Yes, the Updater's behavior will not change as long as you have DNSv6 from your ISP. You must also look after the IPv6 side of things. You enter ::ffff:d043:dedc and ::ffff:d043:dcde as DNSv6 server addresses.
Returning the router will not help, because this has nothing to do with your router.

Note:
My previous message went into "pending approval" and was waiting for approval.

If I use the OpenDNS IPv4 and IPv6 addresses in my asus rt-ac88u and then use firefox 58 and click on the test page I get a check mark. If I change them to anything else or use the comcast default servers it shows an x. The updater hasn't been updated in years and there have been multiple updates to windows 10 during the same time frame. So who am I to believe; the web page or the years old updater?
I even tried using DNS Watch in the router just to see what would happen but its a long loop to Germany so there was lag. Even as I type this I'm running namebench waiting for the results to see which DNS servers are the fastest for my location.
Edit: namebench also shows that openDNS is my primary dns server. If I use the two addresses you suggest all IPv6 tests fail. My world is not going to crumble if I cannot use opendns and I'm not resorting to sacrificing a chicken each day for it. Maybe when they have native IPv6 I'll give it another try and thanks for your suggestions.

"If I use the OpenDNS IPv4 and IPv6 addresses..."
What DNSv6 resolvers do you use? It they are 2620:0:ccc::2 and 2620:0:ccd::2, then yes, you will exactly face this error message from the Updater. It's just normal. You are not to use these addresses with your dashboard, as clearly said at https://www.opendns.com/about/innovations/ipv6/
Note: IPv6 support in the OpenDNS Sandbox is limited to standard recursive DNS initially. Additional functionality, like Web content filtering, malware and botnet protection, phishing protection, and more will be available on different IPs when IPv6 support is added to the OpenDNS Dashboard. We have no plan to ever shut down or change the default features for the sandbox IPs.
Again, you enter ::ffff:d043:dedc and ::ffff:d043:dcde as DNSv6 server addresses.
Believe me, it is something at your end, not OpenDNS or the Updater.
If you copy & paste the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic commands to here, I may see what the problem is.
nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.
nslookup whoami.akamai.net.
netsh interface ipv4 show config
netsh interface ipv6 show dns
