I can't block reddit.com

Everything in my webfilters on OpenDNS works, except where Reddit is blacklisted.  I've cleared my DNS cache and cleared my browser's cache.  I've blocked Reddit in my router both by domain and IP address.  I have a line in my hosts file that should make reddit.com resolve to 127.0.0.1.

But despite all of this, Reddit still loads.  What the heck is going on?  Absolutely no other website is exhibiting this behavior.  Every other block I have in OpenDNS, my router, and my hosts file works.  If I block any other site in just one of those, it is blocked.  Only this one site gets through no matter what, and it bypasses all three.

Also, how can I block that site when it somehow bypasses all security?

Post the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic commands here:

nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.
nslookup reddit.com.
nslookup www.reddit.com.

I also have the same problem with imgur.com.  I put it on my blacklist, but I can still get to it.

Hi fatguy5150,

There could be several reasons why sites are not being blocked, and one of the most common reason is that your IP address was changed and didn't get updated to your Dashboard. Most ISPs will assign a dynamic IP address to home users. Every time it changes, the IP address no longer matches that of the Dashboard, and OpenDNS cannot apply its settings, so that's the first thing I would check.

You can also go to welcome.opendns.com to see if you are still configured to OpenDNS in general. If you see the "welcome" page, you are good to go. If you are seeing the "oops, you are not using OpenDNS" page, then check your configuration settings.

As always, feel free to open a support ticket if the issue is not resolved. The commands roblitz suggested does give some insight as to your current network settings.

Good luck! :)

I think something fishy is going on with Reddit and Chrome. I've seen the same issues using a VPN/DNS blocker on Android called Blokada. Manually blocking all other sites works perfectly, but Reddit continues to work.
