Hi,
I use OpenDNS services with the OpenDNS servers on a Rapsberry PI running Raspian OS Buster just updated . I do not have a static IP so I use ddclient as described by OpenDNS. I get the following error: cannot connect to updates.opendns.org:443 socket: hostname verification failed. I ran ddclient standalone in verbose mode and it is the connection to updates.opendns.org that fails. My public ip was properly retrieved. I am not sure how to proceed to get rid of this error. Can you help me?
Best regards,
JF

Hello,
Please try updating your router/application to send updates to updates.dnsomatic.com using port 443.
If that does not resolve the problem please create a support request so we can fully troubleshoot the problem.
Thank you

Hi,
Thank you for coming back to me.
I have ddclient executing as a daemon on my raspberry pi. I query the status of ddclient with the command: sudo systemctl status ddclient
I get the following error:
Feb 26 18:42:30 raspberrypi ddclient[1792]: WARNING: Wait at least 5 minutes between update attempts.
Feb 26 18:47:30 raspberrypi ddclient[1906]: WARNING: cannot connect to updates.opendns.org:443 socket: hostname verification failed hostname verifica
Feb 26 18:47:30 raspberrypi ddclient[1908]: FAILED: updating homedfw: Could not connect to updates.opendns.org.
It has been like this for a while. I opened a request already a few days ago for this issue.
Best regards,
JF
