OpenDNS is not blocking anything

I had OpenDNS configured a few weeks ago and it would give me reports and block certain websites.  Now it doesn't report anything or block anything.  I didn't change any router settings.  Where do I begin?  There isn't anything left to configure, as I've already done it.

Make sure your IP address is registered on your OpenDNS dashboard

Ok, it looks like my IP address had changed.  There were two addresses showing, and one was registered.  I have the other one registered and I'll give it a try.  Thank you!

Then you didn't have everything set up correctly if you have a dynamic IP address and have no made provisions for it to be updated automatically, such as by using OpenDNS Updater app or the updater facilities in devices such as a router

Yes, that seems to be it.  I gave it the three minutes to set everything and now it is blocking things again.  My kids will be so dissapointed!

Well, I had the OpenDNS Updater app, but isn't recognizing my login.  Should be the same as the one I login to the dashboard with, I would assume.  But that is a probably a separate issue.

"Should be the same as the one I login to the dashboard with, I would assume."

Yes, it is.  But unlike the website login, the update process cannot handle special characters reserved for URL encoding/escaping.  In case your password contains such characters, the Updater will not be able to authenticate.  The solution would be to change your password at the website and in the Updater.

"But that is a probably a separate issue."

Nope.  It is directly related and the root cause why you ran into the first issue with not getting your IP address information updated at OpenDNS.

Thanks, this is useful to know.  I did in fact have one of the special characters that is used for URL encoding in my password.  I removed that from my password (side note - it appears that same character also prevents you from changing your password - but you can still do a password reset).  Now that I have that taken care of, the updater app seems to be active.  I'll keep an eye on it if the IP changes to make sure its all configured correctly.
