OpenDNS not giving stats

I signed up for OpenDNS for use on my router so that it would cover the entire network in my home. I followed the instructions by changing the DNS addresses and it has my IP address listed on the dashboard. The problem i am having is that stats are not being generated.  it shows there has been no activity when there has been. Any help would be great!

Ensure that you have stats and logs enabled at your dashboard.  Stats are not real-time. Initially it takes 24 hours for the stats to appear.  Later on it takes 1-3 hours.

You will only get stats if you're actually using OpenDNS (http://welcome.opendns.com/), and if your IP address is registered at your dashboard.

Ok. Updated the IP address and nowI can see the graph is being plotted with "total requests". However I am not getting any "Domains" data. Is there a lag in collecting that data? Or is there something else I need to do?
Thanks for the help.

Didn't I answer this?

Again: Stats are not real-time. Initially it takes 24 hours for the stats to appear.  Later on it takes 1-3 hours.

And yes, the different kinds of stats may appear at different times.

"Or is there something else I need to do?"

Yes, you need to learn being patient.  OpenDNS collects the DNS stats of about 2% of the whole internet community worldwide.  Do you know what number this means, and what resources are needed to achieve this?  I would think they store volume within a minute you are not able to store during your whole life.  Therefore this process can never be real-time, not the next 10 years at least.

Hi Petu,

You are correct, there is no data generating for your account. Can you please confirm that our service is configured correctly? You can check by going to welcome.opendns.com and you should see a check mark if our service is setup properly.  Let me know your results.

Regards,

Dominic

Hi, I have the same problem.  I have the check mark on welcome.opendns.com.  I enabled stats and logs quite a while ago.  I didn't check them for several months and they must have stopped because I checked to see if they were showing up two days ago and there was no information.  I checked again today and my dashboard still shows 0 for requests, unique domains, everything.  Please help. Thanks.

@christiwalk, most likely the issue is that your current IP address is not registered in the dashboard.  Please compare the IP address you see at myip.dnsomatic.com with the one you have registered in your dashboard.  Most internet service providers lease dynamic IP addresses which means your IP address can change from time to time.

If you plan on registering a network that has an IP address that changes or have already registered a network that has an IP address that changes, then please use the OpenDNS Dynamic Updater Client on one of the computers that is on the network.

Installing and using the Updater Client will ensure that your selected network settings are applied to the proper network and that your network statistics are accurate, even when your network's IP address changes: <http://www.opendns.com/support/dynamic_ip_downloads/>

Not sure what you're saying here.  The domain stats list domains, not categories.

Mean that i have total requests..about 1700 but no other data points. Can't see check anything of top domains or blocked or anything else. Rest data points are empty except total requests.

I see now what you mean.  This phenomenon has been occasionally reported here.  Waiting for longer usually has helped.  The stats are not real-time anyway.  Initially it takes 24 hours and more, and then it tends to take 1-3 hours to appear.  Only the enterprise version (Umbrella) provides real-time stats.

Hi, I need some help with stats. I made sure that my ip is registered in the dashboard and the ip address from myip.dnsomatic.com matches what I registered. I also have opeDns client updater running on my laptop. But there is no stats for any kind. I have been using openDns for a long time and had stats before. I haven't logged on to openDns.com for a quite while, but today i found no stats. Please help. Thanks!

With the free OpenDNS accounts if you don't login and check stats for a period of time (I believe it's two weeks), it stops recording them. Once you go in and "reactivate" by looking at them it can take up to 24 hours for stats become visible.
