9300 SFP speed

Hi guys,

We recently acquired cisco 9300 switch with NIM-8x and 10G SFP ports, however i could not connect it to Cisco 4503-E switch with 1G SFP port. I suspect it a speed issue because its 10G vs 1G. Is there any ways that i can force the 10G SFP to work as 1G.

I tried to configure the speed but that does not work on SFP modules.

Thanks

 - No you can't  ,  as you already stated : SFP speed is fixed per model ,

there is no auto-negotiation in fiber, you need to have both the side same SFP Module, which the device can support also.

"Is there any ways that i can force the 10G SFP to work as 1G."

As the other posters have already noted, no, but some 10G SFP ports are SFP+ ports, which means they can use either a 1G or 10G SFP.  (NB: don't know whether your module's ports are such.)

As the other posters have also noted, the SFP modules on both ends need to "speed" match (and usually match for the media being used too, SX<>SX, LX<>LX, etc.)
