Hello folks,
I have a question about optical interface.
I am reading a cisco press book related optical transmission. In the book I have seen many optical interfaces that are OC-3/OC-3c, OC12/OC-12c, STS-3C, STS-12c and something like that.
My question is what is the "c" in the end of the interface name. What is different between OC-3 and OC-3c, STS-3 and STSc?
Please anyone give me advice.
Thanks

Hi,
The 'c' refers to concatenated. For example, an STS-3c signal consists of 3 concatenated STS-1 signals.
Pls refer to the following link with a good description of Sonet and concepts such as concatenation:

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Paresh,
Thanks a lot.
Like everything, once we know something it is very easier. I couldn't think it would be concatenation.
Thanks again
