Cisco HP interconnection transceivers on 10Gb link

Hi,

There are 3 buildings in a campus, 2 of them are having Cisco 6509 E with x1 4port 10Gb Ethernet SFP and a Supervisor 720 with integrated switch Fabric /PFC3B. The 3rd building is having a HP 8212 E zl switch with 10 Gbe SFP+ SR transceivers and modules.( Part numbers J9538A and J9150A ). Can you please confirm the compatible transceivers or modules we need to place on both Cisco and HP for a 10 Gb Fibre interconnect between two buildings.

Thank You

To be positive, you need to confirm your exact Cisco part numbers for your switch modules and the fiber characteristics.

Making some assumptions (to be verified), you would generally need a Cisco SFP-10G-LR transceiver for 10 Gbps connection over single mode fiber at a distance greater than a couple hundred meters but less than 10 km. Reference http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/data_sheet_c78-455693.html

The exact model of Cisco transceiver would be confirmed using this page: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6974.html#wp56524

The compatible HP transceiver would be the HP ProCurve 10-GbE X2-SC LR Optic (J8437A). The J9150 HP is a "10-Gigabit transceiver in SFP+ form-factor that supports the 10-Gigabit SR standard, providing 10-Gigabit connectivity up to 300 m on multimode fiber."

If you distance is under 300m and fiber specifications (50 micron core multimode, loss characteristics within specification) check out per the above link, you may be able to use Cisco SR optics as well.

Hope this helps.
