Hello,
I have a bunch of "DS-SFP-FCGE-SW" SFPs left over from a SAN switch.
I was wondering, could I use these for gigabit ethernet connectivity between other cisco devices?
In the documentation it says that these support 1/2Gbps fiber channel and also Gigabit Ethernet.
I pluged them into various cisco devices (c6500, 3560, etc) and they do show up as 1000BaseSX SFP and I connected them using a MM LC-LC patchcord (50/125) basicaly a standard patch cord used in SAN enviroments. but there's no link.
Anyone know if I can make this work? Is the fiber patch cord the problem or is it something else.
Thanks,

Hello,
Cisco recommends using qualified SFP's. To verify whether a SFP is qualified or not please check the specification of the devices in question.
Please be aware that some devices might accept 3rd party SFP in one version and reject the same SFP after an upgrade to a second SW version.
Regards,
Alex

Hi,
Check the following links for compatibility matrices for GBICS, SFPs and XFPs to Cisco ONS devices.

There is also a good document in CSC with links to other Cisco optical devices.
