Many of my LX fiber connections have been going down recently. When I test the gbic with a light meter I get around -30 to -40 dbm, which is really low. I then replaced them with spares and the link comes back up every time. The new gbic's light level is around -10 dbm. Today (about 2 days since the last one went down) I go to test the bad gbics again just so that I can call TAC about it when I noticed that all of the failed gbics are back to putting out a -10 dbm level. Has anyone ever had a similar situation or know of any reason why the laser level would go down over time just to go right back up again after a day of inactivity?
Thanks

I guess that the following will help you more troubleshooting steps on GBIC

Hi,
have you checked device's environmental parameters (i.e. fan status, internal temperature etc?).
Were the gbics hot when you plugged them out?
It could be a temperature issue...

Well the room the 6513 is in stays around 18C. All the fans are active in the switch and airflow is unobstructed, but when I check system temp, it does show the exhaust temp for the fiber blades and being 30C. So it is possible that it may of overheated within the blade itself somehow. I will do some experiments and see.
Thanks for help
