Hello,
I am looking for some good documents for a new "optical" engineer to start learning optical networking concepts in general. Also am looking for the same type of documents but with Cisco's view on were there products fit in.

Hi,
This link will give info on Cisco optical products along with some tutorials. http://www.cisco.com/offer/sp/optical/tools.html
You can sit the Cisco optical Exam (9E0-611) I passed this exam. I used the following materials to prepare:
1. Optical Networking: A Beginner's Guide by Robert C. Elsenpeter, Anthony Velte, Toby J. Velte.
2. SONET Test #1 by Boson, good prep exam for understanding Sonet but no where near the real exam.
3. Next Generation Optical Networks : The Convergence of IP Intelligence and Optical Technologies by Peter Tomsu, Christian Schmutzer.
4. DWDM Network Designs and Engineering Solutions by Ashwin Gumaste, Tony Anthony, Tony Antony.
5. Cisco website. Anything on Cisco website dealing with their Optical Solutions.
6. The internet. http://www.nortelnetworks.com/products/01/sonet/collateral/sonet_101.pdf
Good document to read.
Thanks

http://www.lightreading.com has a few nice, simple tutorials available. I'd link directly to them but there is apparently something bad about deep linking.
