ONT 1031 not DEDUCTED using ESSE 1.1.1

ONT 1031 is not being deducted by the ESSE when connected thru' a catalyst 3550 switch.

Question 1 :

Is L2NMP protocol required for the management of ONT 1031 by ESSE supported by the Catalyst 3500 / 2950 series switches

Question 2:

Is there any IOS upgrade required for L2NMP support in normal cisco workgroup switches

Question 3:

Can the ONT 1031 ONLY be configured by ESSE only when connected to the Catalyst 4000 switch running CatOS

Question 4:

Is there any workaround to configure ONT 1031 using ESSE without catalyst 4000 switches.

My network setup is explained as follows :

We have a catalyst 3550 switch with 1000Base-LX GBIC connecting to the Access Port (GBIC port) of ONT 1031 and the Ethernet port ( subscriber end ) is connected to a PC with 3Com 10/100 Mbps NIC.

The Ethernet Subscriber Solution Engine Ethernet 0 port is connected to the management station using cross-cable while the Ethernet 1 ( access port ) is connected to the same 3550 switch.

CDP is enabled in ethernet 1 interface of ESSE & the 10/100 port connecting to ESSE and GBIC port connecting to ONT 1031 are in the same VLAN ( default VLAN 1 )

Though the ONT 1031 LED moves to ORANGE when connected to cisco 1000Base-LX uplink in the 3550 switch, it is not being discovered by ESSE ?

Can anybody help me to configure the ONT 1031's using ESSE with just cisco workgroup switches.

Thanking you in advance

This is End of Life product, any way, you can look at the document for installation : http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat4000/ftth/qsg.htm
