SF300-48pp v Cisco Nexus 3048TP

Morning all!

So I am at a site where they have what looks to be some old kit. I know the SF300s are EOL, as I just updated the firmware to the latest available.

When I connect the SFP ports between the Nexus and the SF300, (Between SF300s and between Nexuses, and even Nexuis to 2960-x, is fine) there appears to be no connection. I seem to remember something about them being designed this way (i.e. incompatible), but cant remember.

Is anyone able to shed some light?

After google searches for various versions of "SF300 Nexus Incompatible" and combination thereof, I came up with nothing quickly. Will keep searching but if anyone has the knowledge already, please help.

Thanks!

C.

So the Module I am using, a SFP-H10GB-CU1M,  to try to connect the Nexus 3048TP to the SF300-48P.

I can see (https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?si=sfp-h10gb-cu1m&tpid=88) that both the N3000 series (I assume Nexus 3048TP falls into that category), and the 2960-x are there. However the SF300-48P is not. But not sure what that means, as when i use the same cable to connect between 2 SF300-48P, it works fine.

I also have a couple of AOI A7ELSN85ADMA0684 SFP+ SR 10G 850nm 300m MMF fiber optic modules and fibre cable, which also work between the Nexus and the 2960-x, but not the Nexus and SF300, but again work fine between the SF300-48P and 2960-x.

So to summarize in a nice table, which works using either cable config :

Nexus 3048TP -> 2960-x  == Functions

2960-x to 2960-x == Functions

2960-x to SF300-48P == Functions

SF300-48p to SF300-48P == Functions

Nexus 3048TP -> SF300-48P == Does Not Function    <---- This is the one I need to function.

Reason being is I need to take the 2960s out, and flatten them, upgradr firmware, and need the SF300s to function in their place temporarily, in the interim untill the 2960s are ready to go back in.

           - But the SFP-H10GB-CU1M is 10G , can the SF300-48pp  do 10g ?

Ah good shout. I never thought about the bandwidth difference. I will investigate tomorrow.

@balaji.bandiIf i connect one SF300 to another SF300 using this SFP-H10GB-CU1M cable, it works fine, and data flows normally.

That's interesting, can I get show interface x/x and show run interface x/x ( SF300 - working device) and also nexus side config

Of course.

I will get that for you on Friday as that's when I am next at that site.

Thanks.
