Hello,
In the datasheet, Cisco mentions :
NM-HD-2V
2-slot IP communications voice/fax network module.
Supports up to eight channels of analog/BRI voice using medium complexity codec or six channels using any supported codec. (No support for T1/E1 or data WAN)
However, when I start up this router, I only have 4 voice-ports, so 4 channels , BUT I have two VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE, so I would like to assign 8 channels ...
Does anyone have information/tips on this ?
Many Thanks
Dirk

Hi Dirk,
Check table 7.1
Also
The VIC-2BRI-NT/TE card should be installed in slot 0 of the NM-2V voice carrier card. The second VIC slot of the NM-2V must not have any other voice interface cards installed while an ISDN voice card is installed. This is necessary to ensure the NM-2V voice carrier card allocates the four Digital Signal Processor (DSP) resources correctly to the four available B channels on the two BRI ports. Only one BRI port would be active and ISDN voice calls may not work if the card is installed in slot 1 of the NM-2V card.

Hello Dave,
I checked your information, many thanks for that. But the module I have is an NM-HD-2V, not an NM-2V, so your information is right, but we are talking about another module.
Thanks
Dirk

Hi Dirk,
You had me worried for a minute.
How about: -
The NM-HD-1V and NM-HD-2V have feature parity with the NM-1V and NM-2V, except there is currently no support for the following on NM-1V and NM-2V:
*
Trunked ATM Adaptation Layer 2 (AAL2) on analog ports
*
Universal Foreign Exchange Office (FXO) and CAMA
*
Dropping of DSPs on a Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS)-to-POTS call that stays within the network module.

Hi Dave,
the NM-HD-2V has feature parity, but the HD-2V DSPs allow twice as many channels as the non HD version, hence supporting 8 channels.

Hello Dirk,
Last week I installed the same combination and had the same problem. Couldn't pinpoint the problem to the router or the Dutch KPN. They are looking into this problem at the moment.
Do you have the same sort of ISDN2 line with a static TEI=0 ?

The NM-HD-2V supports your configuration. According to the Table 5 of
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps5365/products_data_sheet09186a0080191d41.html
"Requires at least one Cisco VIC (maximum of two): VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE"
on the show ver, how many isdn ports show up?
Cheers,
F

Agreed. Sorry don't have captured the sh vers, but with sh ISDN status I can see only 2 with layer 1 Active the other is De-activated. When using the De-activated port this one is activated and another is De-activated. Also I see a message about Clk and Guido change. It really seems only 2 ISDN ports can be active at the same time.

Hi.
The best way to see what is goinbg wrong is to do a show diag and see if the nm and vics come up.
Below is the relevant part of a show diag of a WIC-2BRI-NT/TE on a NM-2V on the slot 2 of a 3640. (yours hopefully will be different :))) )

Pinpointed the problem to the physical connection between the NT1 and CO. It took the provider some time to locate this problem.
