Backing Up Unity 2.4

We are currently running Unity 2.4.6 and we have question about backing up the data on the server. We are currenlty running NT backup and we are noticing that all of the Unity files are not being backed up because they are in use. My question is should we be stopping any services (ie, exchange, av services) before backing up the data? If so where can I find the list of services that need to be stopped? If we do stop them can we use a batch file to stop and restart the services? Or if not do have a better backup procedure?

You should really be using a backup package that handles open files and the Exchange message store to do regular backups of your box. Unity isn't the only applicaiton that'll have open files on your system and trying to write a script to shut down all services properly and then bring them back up after the backup is complete is dicey at best.

We've tested BackupExec with Unity and it works fine... other sites have used other packages that support open files/Exchange such as Arcserve and the like with success, they just haven't been offically tested by the BU here. The built in Nt backup isn't ideal for backing up a system like Unity by a long shot.
