cat 5 and poe support

hi all

at customer site thay have a network set up with cat 5 cable is it possible to go for poe using cat 5 or cat 5 e is required. please suggest.

Cat 5 or better should be fine.

Just to follow-up with Sankar ensure the cabling has been certified for all the standard BICSI regulated tests as a cable hanging over an incandescent light or a poorly terminated patch panel can create a world of issues for you. If you are not sure or do not have tests showing this, I would spend the money to do so first.

One thing i learned with PoE is you also need to be aware of the patch cables you use. I've found that if your patch cable isnt in the best of shape, you can expect squirrelliness with your phones.
