Cisco 3510 IP/VC transcoder issue

Hi,

Currently, I'm in the process of designing video over ip system. I'm interested in 3510 IP/VC product. But one of my concern is the trancoder issue. I noticed that the codec supported by 3510 is only g711alaw/g711ulaw. What if, if other participants in a conference are using different codecs? How do you accomodate this other codec participants.

Unlike with Cisco 3540 IP/VC which has a transcoder option, this 3510 doesn't have. Do I need to setup a router with a DSP installed and configured it as the transcoder?

Hope to get your suggestions.

Regards,

Sherwin

Indeed you would need to do transcoding external to the 3510. One option is the IP/VC 3520 Gateway, which is equipped with transcoders that provide audio codec transcoding between G.711 and G.728 and between G.723 and G.711 to ensure the highest quality audio and video possible.
