Cisco MeetingPlace vs Cisco Webex

Hello All,

I would need some help clarifying Cisco MeetingPlace and Cisco WebEx solutions.

If my understanding is clear:

- Cisco Webex is a cloud which provides collaboration tool (audio, video, web conference) for the participans via a dedicated network through the Internet.

- Cisco MeetingPlace also a collaboration platform providing video, audio, web conference features but the resources HW/SW should be installed on-premises.

- these two can also be integrated in using WebEx node for MCS, so Cisco MeetingPlace users can have the option to use webex features as well?? or cisco MeetingPlace only available integrating it with the WebEx cloud?

I really appreciate any help and explantion which one is used for what, what is the benefit integrating them.

You're right on the first point. MeetingPlace would be accurately described as an on-premise extension of the WebEx SaaS platform. It functions as an alternative audio bridge as well as providing standards-based video client support (e.g. H323/SIP end points). If you choose to purchase the WebEx Node for MCS, you can also extend the web meeting functionality of WebEx to be on-premise.

Starting in MP8, it is no longer an a standalone product; WebEx is intertwined.

An other question came into my mind:

So it means the web conference function will be available only through the WebEx cloud from MP 8.x?

What if there is an enterprise wants to do an internal web conference? In this case all the web traffic need to be routed through the WebEx cloud or the WebEx node for MCS can handle it onsite?

WebEx Node for MCS

The design of a Unified MeetingPlace solution is affected by the nature  of the meetings to be hosted on the system. For example, is there a  requirement for meetings to include only internal participants, or are  external attendees also allowed? All web conferencing for the Unified  MeetingPlace solution is provided by WebEx; however, the WebEx Node for  MCS allows an organization to pull content sharing resources  on-premises. If all meetings involve external participants, the WebEx  Node for MCS is not required. However, if there is a requirement to have  internal meetings where all the audio, video, and content sharing  remains on-premises, the WebEx node for MCS should be deployed. The node  essentially extends the WebEx cloud's collaboration bridge technology  into a customer's organization by using dedicated MCS hardware and WebEx  software. It does have direct communication with the Unified  MeetingPlace Application server; however, it is still operated and  managed through the WebEx site administration, thus it requires  connectivity to the internet so that the node can initiate outbound TCP  port 443 SSL connections to the organization's WebEx site.
