I have users complaining of getting a voicemail with a previous date even though they have checked their voicemail since then. Is this a know issue, its hard for me to troubleshoot because it doesn't happen all the time. I have had compaints from different users at different sites.

Turn on exchange message tracking to see if the message is delayed in there.
On the unity side you can turn on micro traces for Phrase Server (10, 11, 12, 13), and UMR (10, 12, 13, 14). You can then identify when the messages were left (if messages were left from outside callers)

no, i configured those settings but haven't had a complaint yet to look into, and too busy to dig into myself right now.
