Disk M ?

I installed Unity 3.1.1 on Dell PowerEdge 2450. Later I upgraded it to 3.1.3. Dell has 4 physical drives (RAID), but on preinstalled Win2K before Unity installation I had only one logical drive C. After Exchange and Unity installation drive M has appeared. Every time I check remaining space on these drives, it's completely the same. Space on C is equal to space on M. How can it be?

Hi,

Drive M is a logical drive that Exchange 2K server uses. You don't want to mess with it. Check out some Exchange 2k papers at MS's website for more details.

There is mixed info out there but from experience DO NOT back up or virus scan this drive. In a Unity Voice Mail only environment you'll not reap the benefits of this type of storage but it has many advantages for email purposes.

additionally, if you were to type

http://192.168.1.10/exchange in IE (with your unity boxes address used in place of 192.168.1.10)

you could then log on to your exchange inbox on unity and download and listen to your voice messages. when you put your mouse over one of these messages if you have the status bar enables on the bottom of your browser you'll see

http://www.yourdomainname.com/exchange/yourname/inbox/messagesubject.eml

this path is to the M: drive as all emails are stored in .eml .

also in windows explorer you can type

\\unityservername\M\yourdomainname.COM\MBX\username\inbox\

and you will see your inbox emails in .eml form.

this is not reccomended but this type of storage I have read could be the future of the exchange product, but there are multiple theories.
