Hi,<br><br>I'm working on the SA access that I posted and received a reply from you a few days ago. <br><br>I have another question about our Unity. We have it installed on NT4.0 SP5 Exchange 5.5 SP3 and Unity 2.4. <br><br>I run Mailbox Cleanup and now have about 30 users using Unity and a further 60 or so using POP3 email. Everthing works fine apart from when Exchange defrags the Private Information store. When we were testing this server we had all the email people and only a few Unity subscribers (5 or so) and never seemed to get lots of "AIR" (as Microsoft calls it) in the Private store. Now within a few days I seem to get 70mbs of "AIR" and end up having to do a manual defrag (edbutil). It's not a big deal just a pain to remote in and do that. <br><br><br>Anyone run into this before?<br><br>Bill.<br><br><br>

Well, I'm not real sure what you mean by "AIR" but I'm assuming the private store is becoming fragmented and it's getting reclaimed?
We saw something like this in house when we weren't letting the off line defragmentation run to completion... the IS folks had it set run often but only for short periods. It always starts at the begining and wasn't getting through to the end to those folks added most recently like, say, our new CEO for instance. We couldn't figure out why some folks were having such large delays when calling in and getting message counts and other folks were fine.
we finally checked the logs and figured out the off line defragger wasn't finishing in the time it was given. Probably not what you're seeing with the size of your directory, but that's the only thing that comes to mind.
Perhaps you could expand on the definition of "AIR"?

Sorry,
Air was the term used in the admin book for fragmented space after the online defragmenter doing it's thing. I do not run the offline version often as documentation states I shouldn't have to if the online version is active.
So when you look through the Event log, you see the entry that the online drfragmenter did a full pass on the Private Store and afterwards there was 70mbs of free space.
Microsoft states that the above figure (Air) should be as close to zero as possible.
Does that sort of explain it?
