FR with Class-Based Shaping

Hello. I think of benefits of implementing traffic shaping for each separate class, like voice, data... in policy-map, rather then in frame-relay class map for all traffic at once. What would I win, doing this, and how it would work with the same defined CIR in each class? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Service providers will typically police based on the CIR for a circuit. When you shape at the map-class level, you are shaping the aggregate traffic for that DLCI and that is what you get policed on. That's why it makes sense to shape at an aggregate level. Just because you shape individual components of traffic such as voice/date, that does not mean that the total traffic will be shaped out correctly.

The recommendation is to:

- use a map-class to specify your traffic-shaping parameters

- apply a service-policy to the map-class to prioritise traffic within that map-class.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Ok, but if I'd use your suggested approach, will provider react on DE bit marking, if I'll set it for one of my classes of traffic, or he

will set this bit himself???
