We have been trying for months to get headsets that work with the 7960s and kept running into quirks with gain, etc. We finally settled on Plantronics H81s and it seemd to work well - voulme sememd good, etc. But we seem to get a pretty noticeable echo (of yourself, not the other person) when we use them. Even calls across the PSTN to your home - if you are on a headset and your wife isn't - she can hear herself in echo, and you can hear yourself in echo. Switch to the handset and the self-echo is gone on both ends. THis even happens IP-Phone-to IP Phone.
Anyone run into this? Any ideas?

Supported headsets come from http://cisco.getheadsets.com . The ones there were tested and certified for use with the Cisco products. Perhaps you can compare product specs from those ones with the specs of the ones you bought and narrow down the problem.

Sorry, no ideas but we are having the same problem. IP to IP phone when one person has a headset and the other doesn't. We are using cisco approved plantronics headsets.

I ran into this problem when we where using the Plantronics base amp units with the headsets, We then switched to using just the headset plugged directly into the 7960 and we have not had any problems since.

You should never use a amp for a headset it is built into the phone. Only wirless headsets need a base unit.
