How can I change the Hostname of a Cisco IP Phone 7960?

I don't believe there is a way to do that. It is always SEP[Mac address]. You can always map a another name to the device using DNS. So get the IP address of the phone then setup a DNS entry called phone1.mycompany.com. Then you could ping the phone by that instead of using SEP[mac address].mycompany.com. Why are you trying to change the hostname of the IP phone?

It's not easy to keep those names in mind ;-)

It would be easier to change the names on the phones instead of making CNAME entrys on the DNS server...

I understand what you are saying but at the current time I do not see anyway to change the hostname. What type of maintaince are you doing that you need a different hostname. In the ccmadmin pages I usually let the description denote whose phone it is and what it is doing. Then you can use that to see whose phone it whose or what purpose it is.
