MGCP and H323 configuration on a VoIP gateway.

Can I have a router act as both H323 and MGCP gateway I have a router in hub location which is connected to PBX through tie lines. Most of the remote locations having h 323 endpoints terminates the call to this router. But I also want this router act as MGCP gateway for call surviability for a Callmanager cluster in one of the major location. Any configuration example is highly appreciated.

Thanks

You can simply configure MGCP on the router just like you do on any other voice gateway. I assume you are using POTS lines or a PRI ?

H323 will run for all your Voip calls independent of MGCP. But note that you will also have to configure SRST and MGCP will fallback to H323 mode when the WAN is down (SRST kicks in).. What router platform are you using for SRST ??

Hi,

My question is if I reset the MGCP Gateway on Cammmanager gateway page, will it drop the active calls established through H323 sessions on that VoIP router? Many of the remote locations establish the calls through H 323. I am using Cisco 3725, which I need to use both as MGCP and H323.

Thanks

As long as you dont have

a. ccm-manager config related commands configured, where the callmanager pushes the configs to the router

b. Both your H323 and MGCP protocols share the same PSTN pipe to send calls to the PSTN. For ex: a PRI circuit to the PSTN being shared by your H323 sessions as well as MGCP. If you have ccm-manager commands configured and you reset the gateway the line protocol on the D-channel interface will go up and down due the config push via MGCP from the callmanager.

HTH
