Multitenant advise on mailbox numbers

Jeff,

On our new service offering, I'm stuggling whether to have 10 digit mailbox numbers for uniqueness, or to just go with 4 digit and pray that CSS and Partions are implemented in Unity. What is your advise.

I don't expect overlap the 1st year. I guess I'm asking for a best guestimate of when this functionality will come out.

Also, if there were overlap, and I had to go with 4 and 10 digit numbers in Unity, what are the implications if the 1st 4 digits overlapped between a 4 digit and 10 digit number..(ie inter-digit timeouts, etc..)

If you think you'll have overlap within a year I would roll with the 10 digit numbers - the work for strick directory partitioning is still in the design and discussion phase (i.e. we can approach it as seperate databases on the same Unity server where tenants don't interact with one another at all and numbers can overlap that way or we can use filters in the same database to allow number overlap via a lookup sequence rule etc...) - I would not bet the farm on exactly what the implementation will be right now and that it will arrive in time for you to employ in time.

Unity uses digit timeouts regardless of if you have overlapping prefixes or not (i.e. if you have a 1234 and a 12345) - there is no "immediate lookup" for unique IDs. You can wait for the digit timeout (by default 1.5 seconds) or you can press # to terminate the digit entry sequence.
