Music On Hold and Cellphones

I have a customer that gets alot of calls from cellphones. Their callers (customers) are complaining about the quality of the MoH while they are on hold on their cellphones. I have tested it and it sounds fine from the VoIP system, but when you call in from a cellphone the MoH plays some then it has frequent periods of static instead. Can somebody suggest a fix for this?

Hi C,

Please keep in mind that MoH is fine only if you are using G.711. If, for some reason your, customer's configuration uses a compression algorithm such as G.729a then the result is something like your case. Try to stay on G.711

When using a non waveform codec such as G729, the resulting quality will be very poor. G711 is waveform, G729 is vocoder like technology. It has a codebook with speech-knowledge and not music knowledge. That's why the resulting quality is so bad!
