Not sure why this is happening. This department of 25 phones has two brand new 3551 switches connected via gb. And the primary switch is connected to our datacenter via fiber. None of the other sites with VoIP phones are reporting this problem. But it has happened once a month or so with this specific department which keeps them from being able to make calls. The issue only seems to last 5-15 minutes, but I can't find anything to tell me why this is happening. The location setting for these phones (and the other locations) are set to 1024. Clues?

This is the callmanager telling you that you do not have enough bandwidth left to make the call,so you are using nearly all the 1024Kbps on calls, I assume you are using G711 codec, which for the location calculation uses 80Kbps, so you can have a maximum of 12 calls going to that location, the 13 th call will get the "not enough bandwidth message"

You can use the Real-Time Monitoring tool (RTMT) to monitor the number of calls to a location and the available bandwidth

That's correct, and just increase the location bandwidth to "n X 80", where n-number of calls you want to allow. Keep in consideration the actual bandwidth of the physical link you have, and that there is adequate bandwidth provisioned to allow n number of calls.

I find that if this is a case were WAN sites are calling this one site you my want to change the Region of the aflected site to G.729 when calling to remote sites. This will give to 4 times more calls at the same bandwith ( G.729 is about 20k). I've never had a single person notice/complain about the quality differences between the two.

Draw backs to this is that it would require hardware transcoders strictly for confrence. This means that the IP phone would be able to make calls to all other Cisco devices (gateways and IP phones) without any transcoders, but if you make a confrence call at G.729 then you would need hardware confrence bridge support this call. The software cofrence bridge that is on by default on all CCMs only supports G.711.
