I have come across an interesting issue that I am looking for some more information on.
As part of a new installation, approximately 700 phones were deployed to desks (and connected to the network) on a new CallManager environment of which only 500 phones have been defined at this stage. This left approximately 200 phones going through the registration process and getting a registration rejected message because they were not defined in CallManager.
These phones have now been disconnected until users move into the building and therefore require their phone. What I am seeing is that on the first of two subscribers there are constant Error messages in the Event Viewer with the following:
Error: DeviceTransientConnection - Transient connection attempt.
Connecting Port: 2000
When I look at the MAC address of the phone in these messages, it is always one of the phones that has been disconnected from the network. Why are these phones constantly coming up in Event Viewer even though they were never defined in CallManager and are not physically connected to the network?
