Hi all,
We're currently running physical hardware systems running UC services as follows
2x CUCM 8.0(2) (HAoWAN)
2x UCCX 8.0(2) (HAoWAN)
1x CUC 8.0(2)
We're looking at upgrading to UC 9.0, add CUPS/Jabber, and to virtualize the environment onto Cisco UCS devices.
Was hoping to get advice on which 2 UCS hardware platforms to purchase for each site (2 sites) - including number of processors, quantity of RAM, and HDDs.
In the end we'd be looking at running as follows:
< 1000 users
Site A:
1x CUCM 9 with co-resident ELM
1x CUC 9
1x CUPS 9
1x Server to run PostgreSQL for persistent chat archiving, etc. (this could be hosted on another database server we have in our environment if storage would be an issue or blow up the cost too much)
1x UCCX 9
Possible future expansion to add an AQM and WebEx server.
Site B:
1x CUCM 9
1x UCCX 9
Possible future expansion to add a CUPS and CUC server.
Can you please assist with bundle info and required specs to make this happen?
Assuming ESXi 5.0 (or version compatible with UC9) is included in the bundles?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Brett

Hi Brett,
I want to make sure you are aware of the docwiki we have setup for virtualizing UC applications, http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_Virtualization. This is a great resource for planning, implementing and maintaining virtualized environments.

Right, www.cisco.com/go/uc-virtualized has all the UC rules.
There are some updates coming soon to reflect next round of supported hardware, plus some simplifiction of the existing content to fewer pages.
Didn't see user count per VM, which drives VM specs, which determines server count and HW specs.
Typical UC on UCS looks like vSphere 5 on UCS C210 M2 Tested Reference Configuration #1 (quotable either as UCS-C210M2-VCD2 or equivalent BOM from www.cisco.com/go/swonly - all this data moves to a single page in next few months).
Cisco is transitioning from M2 servers to M3 servers in synch with Intel CPU changes. UC qualification of the new UCS M3 servers is in progress and targeted for completion later in mid-CY12. UCS C220 M3 Tested Reference Configuration #1 is what we expect most deployments will move to.
