removing CTL file from cisco 7960

we're trying to remove a CTL file from a 7960 phone, the doco states to remove the CTL from the phone follow the below instructions:

Press**##**2 on the phone where you want to delete the file

sounds simple but we have 2 phones the above works on neither. Phone build 6.0(3) anyone having the sample problem?
