I am moving two of my three Call Managers to a new data center. The call mangager that is not moving is functional but is not being unused (i.e., not part of a Call Manager Group).
I was planning to add this extra Call Manager to the existing Call Manager Group and reset all devices. That way everything will use the extra call manager during the move and minimize outage.
I have 900+ devices in this group, which I realize is not a lot for some folks. Wondering if resetting all 900 devices at the same time will cause problems, overload the system, or take a long time to complete.
I wouldn't expect it to be a problem or take very long, just wanted to verify.
Thanks in advance.

I have about 800 phones and it takes less than a minute for all of my phones to register with a single backup server when I perform maintenance on the other server and have never had a problem. The Maximum Phone Fallback Queue Depth in the Services Parameters will control how many phones the CallManager queues after you bring CallManager back online.

I think its also depend on where you are using PIX firewall or not, I used a FWSM controlling a specific ports which required by phones to register with CCM, at this case resetting all IP Phones was take long time to be stable, but without firewall and only access-list on the router with inter vlan configuration, it takes no time.
