A few of my users complained that some of their messages had a very loud screetchy noise at the end of it; after 10s or so a busy signal that would play almost forever; I stopped the thing at over 2mn! and never got the options for the message.
Anyone with some ideas?

This could be caused by any of the following,
1) Fluctuating audio cause of phone load.
2) Incorrect AGC Settings.
3) Incorrect TSP Settings.

Are the problem calls inbound calls from the PSTN using FXO ports?
If so then you might be having a problem with the FXO port not disconnecting properly. Please refer to this link for FXO disconnect troubleshooting:
