I am using a SoftPhone 1.2 with CM 3.0.8 over PPTP VPN (Windows 98) via a cable modem. Everything workd OK, except whoever I call, cannot hear me well. They say my voice is breaking up. I can hear them just fine. Any ideas?

Have you tried the "always use low bandwidth codec" check box under settings/audio
You're using a cable modem, this technology isn't always the best for voice, as there is a contention ratio normally 20 to 1, ie. you share the available bandwidth with 20 other people. Sometimes the throughput can be worse than a 56k modem.
Try using the compressed voice codec for best results in limited bandwidth situations

I did, but unfortunatelly that didn't help. I will definitely take look at bandwidth. Besides that, can you think of anything else I can try?

Hello Valdimir,
The quality of your voice equipment is a factor when using SoftPhone. A friend had to go to a 7960 at home because of the inability of the microphone in his PC to record high quality voice. This problem is worse in laptops (especially those with touch pad mice). Did you try headphones and a microphone?
You also might take a look at packet loss and jitter on an IP phone on the other side of the conversation (ii).

Bob, thank you. You were right. It ended-up being a microphone issue. :)
