Hi
I am trying to set up Fast Dial options on our 7940G handsets but cannot get it to work. Can't find anything that shows how to do this and what it should look like, can anyone help?

Hi Heather,
How to configure "Fastdials" via the IP Phone;
Fastdials
http://www.cisco.com/comm/applications/CCNP/qlm/7961/index.htm
IP Phone Services - Built In (Fastdials)
Configuring the Personal Fast Dials Service
You configure Personal Fast Dials by adding the service to Cisco CallManager Administration and configuring the appropriate service parameters. To configure the Personal Fast Dials service, perform the following steps.
Procedure
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1 Choose Feature > Cisco IP Phone Services.
The Cisco IP Phone Services Configuration window displays.
Step 2 In the Service Name field, enter the name of the service you want to display in the menu of available services on the Cisco IP Phone User Options window, for example, My Fast Dials.
Step 3 In the Service Description field, enter a description of the content provided by the service, for example, Personal Directory - Personal Fast Dials.
Step 4 In the Service URL field, enter the URL of the server where the application for the Personal Address Book service is located:
http://
Step 5 Click Insert.
Step 6 Click the New button to the right of the Parameters list box.
The Configure Cisco IP Phone Service Parameter window appears.
Step 7 Add each parameter as described in Table A-2, beginning with UserID. When specified, enter the parameter name exactly as it appears in the table.
Step 8 Click Insert to add the parameter.
Step 9 When you have added the last service parameter, click Insert and Close to insert that parameter and close the window.
The Cisco IP Phone Services Configuration window displays.
Step 10 Click Update Subscriptions.
From this good doc;
Hope this helps!

Hi Rob
Well, it's not going well.
Where do I start? Is this from the GUI or somewhere else?
Sorry to have to ask such simple questions but this is all new to me so all your help is greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Heather

Hi Heather,
No worries :) The first part of the setup is done via ccmadmin (via the gui). You must setup Fastdials as a Service as shown in the first link I sent. Once the Service is available you have to add it to users phones so they can access it and use it via the Services Button on the IP Phone (try getting this working on one test phone for starters). Can you let us know what version of Callmanager you are running as well.

We have CME 4.1. If you go into our GUI it says Cisco Unity Express Version 2.3.
Does this help?
I cannot see anywhere in the GUI where it allows you to set up a service.
Any ideas?

Hi Heather,
I am very sorry as the info I was sending is for Callmanager not CME (I should have asked earlier :( For your version of CME (CME 4.1) these can only be configured by the Admin not from the IP Phone itself.
In Cisco Unified CME 4.3 and later versions, IP phone users can configure their own speed-dial and fast-dial settings directly from the phone. The speed-dial and fast-dial settings can be added or modified on the phone by using a menu available with the Services feature button. Extension Mobility users can add or modify speed-dial settings in their user profile after logging in. Fast-dial settings are not configurable from Extension Mobility phones, nor is the logout profile configurable from the phone.
Previously, the speed-dial and fast-dial configuration for a phone could only be done in Cisco Unified CME or by using the web-based GUI. This feature gives phone users the convenience of configuring their speed-dial and fast-dial settings from their phones directly.
The speed-dial and fast-dial user interface is enabled by default on all phones with displays. You can disable the capability for an individual phone in Cisco Unified CME to prevent a phone user from accessing the interface. If a phone's speed-dial or fast-dial setting is configured with an ephone-template, the configuration from the phone applies only to the specific phone and does not change the ephone-template configuration.
Here is the info for CME;

Hope this helps!

Hi Rob
Well we've given it a go but no luck. It looks like abbeviated dialling can be set up but by only using the telnet option not the persons GUI. The GUi doesn't give a user the ability to set up speed dials unless they have a free button, most here have only 1 free button.
As for the fast dials following the instructions all looks okay but how do you then access them from your phone?
We were told you would see a personal directory within directories but nothing appears, is there something I'm missing?

Hi Heather,
I'm sorry to hear that this isn't working well. Don't forget the 1st Speed Dial will use the spare Line Button but the others can still be configured.
Restrictions
â¢A personal speed-dial menu is available only on Cisco Unified IP Phones 7940, 7960, 7960G, 7970G and 7971G-GE.
