The Installation Guide for Unity V3.1(3) says that if you have 32 Voice Ports or less then you are "licensed" only to install MSDE. We will start with 16 ports and in 2 months will be moving to more than 32 ports. <br><br>Is there any reason that the installation would prevent me from installing SQL 2000 now rather than have to upgrade from MSDE later with my VM ports have increased?<br><br>

there's no reason you can't install full SQL2000 now... the setup doesn't care one way or the other, it's purely a licensing issue. If you purchased a Unity with less than 32 ports we include MSDE bundled in, if you purchase more ports we include the license for SQL 2000.
If you have your own licensed copy of SQL2000 you can use that no problem.

...and upgrading to SQL2000 from MSDE is no big deal later on either. See:
