Customer wants receptionist to see status of their 14 employees on the 7914. I setup the 7914 as Shared Line Appearances, as I think Speed Dials won't show status.
Customer wants to be able to hit Transfer > SidecarUsernameButton > Transfer, but this doesn't work. Instead when you hit the sidecarusernamebutton you pickup a line (because it's not a speed dial).
They can't use Attendant Console due to the voice and data being seperate networks altogether. Callmanager 3.2(2)

Jason,
I have had a look into this about six months ago and have not managed to find a way around it!

There is a (slighty complex) way of achieving this. You set the Shared Lines as "PLAR" lines. In other words, you create a series of empty translation patterns which ring the user's extension when you pick up the line.
The problem with this is that you need to put the PLARs in a different partition, so that the users lines don't ring themselves when they pick up their phones. Then another translation pattern is required to translate the "invented" partitions to the real partitions. Confused yet? It gets worse - you need to create a calling search space for each line, because the PLAR is an empty translation pattern and you can't have multiple, identical tranlation patterns.
If you can get your head round this, you end up with lines on the 7914 which act as speed dials, but which still show line status of the real users.
We have about 180 of these dummy partitions. It's a headache, but works very well once it's done. As long as the user involved doesn't want too many changes done after the initial setup!

i understand the concept up until this part:

how do i get the shared line to not ring on my console set - only want to use this as nosy neighbor lamp and speed dial. scenario - have 2 phones, 1 trying to monitor extension 6666 in line1part. i added a line to set 2 and gave it ext 6666 in line1part (for the nosy neighbor) and a css of plar6666 that only sees 1 part (plar6666part). created empty xlate pattern with plar6666part that xlates to 6666 for speed dial scenario. when someone calls 6666 it is showing as incoming call on both displays. apparently i am missing how to do the last step of the invented xlations?
great post and i am excited about this! thanks for any additional help!

To have the phone not ring but be nosy just set the line properties to flash or ring disabled!

I understand the plar aspect of this process but I am confused about how to monitor line state. If the two lines are not in the same partition (shared line) then how will my sec phone be able to tell when the other phone is in use? I can think of ways to make the sec phone ring when the other one does, but how can I monitor line state without having a shared line? And if my lines are shared lines, then how do I avoid both phones acting as a plar?
