Use of preference command on gateway

I have a H323 2600 voice gateway with E&M interface going into a PABX. When the E&M is fill up with calls I like the next call to be sent to another gateway with E1 connection to PSTN. Unfortunately I created the route list on Call Manager with the E&M as the first preference and the E1 as the second choice however it does not seem to work. Is this because it is Analog gateway (E&M) rather than digital (ISDN)? I then created pots dial peers on the gateway with preference 1 going via the E&M and then another voip dial peer with preference 2 to go via the other gateway. It does not seem to use the preference command. Could someone explain how I could overcome this problem?

Hello,

Try to do the same thing with trunkgroups.

Here is a sample config.

trunk group 1

hunt-scheme <> --This is not necessary.

voice-port 0/1:23

trunk-group 1 1 -- where first 1 indicates the trunkgroup number and the second one indicates the preference.

voice-port 1/1/1

trunk-group 1 2 -- where 2 indicates the that this port needs to be used with preference 2.

dial-peer voice 1 pots

trunkgroup1

destination-pattern <>

Note when you put trunkgroup for dial-peer you cannot assign a port to it.So when the routing decision is made dial-peer 1 choose trunkgroup 1 which has members as port 0/1:23 first and 1/1/1 as the second member.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Radhika

Hi

Thanks for responding but it does not seem to address my problem. In my situation the E1 is on another gateway. I will not be able to use this command.
