Can I have VM (not UM) users messages stored on my corporate Exchange 2k server in the user's Exchange acct? Does this violate the VM license? Will this be any different in 4.0?

Yes, you can. So long as there is no client access to those mailboxes other than over the phone or using the (seperately licensed) VMI web interface you are in compliance with your VM only license. The store where the user is homed is not important in the license agreement, only the method of access to it.

so how do I do that? isn't the VM message just going to appear in the user's inbox with his other email? Is 4.0 going to change this at all? BTW, I thought 4.0 was due in October.

You have to have seperate inboxes for VM and email if you want to stick with your VM only license structure. The mailboxes can be homed on any Exchange server you want but it cannot be in the same mailbox that a user's connects any desktop client to (i.e. Outlook) to view their messages. Short story, if users are seeing voice mail messages by anytying other than the phone or the VMI client, you are not compliant with the VM only license.

No, this model does not change at all for 4.0(1).

Not sure where you heard October - that was never a release date (either internal or external) that I know of. We've been saying the end of the year since this summer - and it's still on target for the end of the year RTP.
