Im trying to use a wav file for custom rings on our 7960's. I went through the docs here and I *THINK* encoded it right:
raw pcm (I think I did that)
8000hz
8bit
etc
The other stuff was kind of sketchy for me though. Not sure if I did it right. I then saved it as a .raw file just as the other rings seem to be on call manager.
I then went into services, restarted tftpd, and went to the phone. The new ring was there as a selection but when I play it, it sounded like horrible static. What did I do wrong? Is there a reasonably priced app that will save it the exact way I want it?
thank you!

Ringtones need to be:
8000Hz samplingrate
8 bit resolution
mono
u-law
Here's a free conversion app that might come in handy (though the windows media recorder will do just fine as well): http://sox.sourceforge.net/

Thank you. I just downloaded it. Looks like it will do what I need. Of course it will take me 3 days to figure out the cli for it ;-)
I can also try windows media recorder..

OK Ill give. For the life of me I cant get sox to do what I want. When I play the output from it, its unintelligible. Is there a certain command line that you use that works?
thank you!

Here's a link from Cisco that might be of some use:
Not sure if that helps...
