WS-X4604-GWY and/or WS-U4604-DSP

Is the 4604-DSP set optional or required for the 4604 gwy? What will I lose if I don't install the 4604 dsp set? I am putting this in an environment that is all g.711, I have no remote locations that are doing g.729a and would need transcoding. Does the 4604-dsp set provide me with conferencing resources as well?? Or is it strictly transcoding services.

The DSP set performs both conferencing and transcoding. If you are putting any VWICs in the chassis you will require the DSP set.

The only time you would not require the DSP set is when you are using the GWY module for WAN connectivity using WICs.
