5548 with L3 daughter card or 6001 for collapsed core/distribution

Hi

I'm in the process of designing a small DC implementation and would like to use 2248s for ToR sever connectivity. Due to the scale of the requirement a 7000 with VDCs etc would be overkill. Therefore I'm looking at deploying a collapsed core/distribution based on either 5548s with and L3 daughter card or 6001s as they are both able to support FEXs.

From what I've read the 5548 is limited to 160G and a max of 16 FEXs, so I'm guessing the 6001 has greater scalability. However does anyone have any experience deploying these switches in this kind of configuration and if so any pros and cons that I should be aware of?

Hi Malcolm

I think the 6001 is a good option since its stronger in performance and port density than 5K except I think 6001 dose not support unified port
