cisco meraki Data plane and control plane

Since the whole management console for Cisco Meraki in Cloud. Is that mean the control plane will be in cloud and the data plane will stick with devices itself. Which is leads us to SDN concept in some how ?

Its semi kind of, but this for SME will be good, for full Enterprise solution i will still stick with WLC and WAP.

I have a question about it.. Is the "control plane" mentioned on the above link is actually the management plane only? The control plane traffic like OSPF / STP...etc are processed on device instead of cloud? If so, then it's different from the concept of SDN, am I right?

With regard to WiFi; I wouldn't.  We are down to doing only maybe 1 WLC deployment a year.  All the rest are now Cisco Meraki.

Basically we only do WLC deploymenyts now if the site has to operate permanently with no Internet connection.

It would be more accurate to say the management plane is in the Cloud.

For example, lets take a Cisco Meraki Switch.  If you disconnect it from the Internet it will keep forwarding/routing packets, however you will loose the ability to make config changes (and to monitor it).

On the device; As Philip D'Ath mentioned,if you disconnected from Cisco Meraki, it will keep working.

That's mean the mac address table, spanning tree process...etc are processed on local device instead of cloud.

Compared with SDN (let's say ACI), the control plane and management plane are really processed on the APIC (the controller). The device only process the data plane (imagine a single ip-to-port table for every switch/router, they only do table lookup to forward packet). Controller is responsible to handle control plane traffic, if the controller is down, the network infrastructure is down. Obviously, Cisco Meraki not doing the same thing.
