Are there CLI commands to do a factory reset of a new Hyperflex system?
08-15-2016 03:08 PM
Hi, douglasdickey11
Can you clarify which components of the HX system you're looking to reset?
There is no single command that will perform a factory reset of the HX system since it is comprised of several layers: UCS hardware, vSphere virtualization platform, and Springpath storage solution
Why do you need to perform a factory reset?

Hi
I want to know how to reset HX220c to factory default,
and need to rebuild the esxi system to SD,
and install Springpath storage Solution(is it Storage Controller VM?)

Hi, stanleychou
Questions:
What version of HyperFlex are you using in your environment? (1.7.1, 1.7.3, 1.8.1)
How many HX220c nodes are you trying to do this to? 1 node, 2 nodes, the whole cluster?
Are you expanding an existing HX cluster or deploying a new cluster?
Why do you need to rebuild ESXi? Did the OS get corrupt?
To reinstall ESXi, follow the steps in the Preparing HX-Series Servers for a Re-Install section of the Cisco HyperFlex Systems Getting Started Guide, Release 1.7
Deploying the storage controller VM on ESXi is done through the HX installer
Refer to the Cisco HyperFlex Systems Getting Started Guide, Release 1.7

Hi Clifford
The HX system is new cluster (2 UCS6248, 3 HX220c), version is 1.7.3
I build a POC enviroment, but i do wrong, so want to reset default.
I know how to reset FI, But I don't know how to reset HX220c.
Thank you

There's some cleanup activities that need to be done in order to get it ready for re-deployment of the HX cluster
Are you able to open a case with Cisco TAC?
They can perform the cleanup and assist with the 1.8.1a installation
1.8.1a requires UCS firmware 3.1(2b) and ESXi 6.0 U1/U2/U2 Patch3
You can get all the software here: HXDP 1.8.1a software download
For more information, I recommend going to the HX Documentation Roadmap webpage and reviewing information such as Release Notes, Interoperability, Pre-install Checklist, etc

Hi Clifford
unfortunately the device service contract not activate yet, so it can't be open TAC case......., I can't decide when it can active.....
Never mind,i will try to rebuild it to 1.7.3 today.

Since it's a new installation for POC, the push is to use 1.8 code as this will have more features and support for newer hardware
Going forward, Cisco and Springpath will be building on top of 1.8
It does require upfront work - getting to UCS 3.1(2b) for all your hardware - your FIs and HX220c servers
However, UCS upgrade is a lot smoother these days than it was before

Maybe next time, because time is too tight for customer demo....

Hi All,
kindly need your urgent support regarding Hyperflex deployement.
I have the following hyperflex design:
- 2x6296 FI
- 3x HX220C M4
I will be using the following firmware.
Hyperflex: 1.8(1f)
HX Data Platform Installer: 1.8(1f)
UCS FI: 3.1(2C)
Esxi: 6.0
Vcenter: 6.0
Vsphere: 6.0
from where I can get the Esxi, Vcenter, and Vsphere? from Vmware or from Cisco??
what is the procedure(step by step) to deploy and run hyperflex.?
thanks,
Haitham Jneid

Haitham,
You can purchase VMware licensing from an authorized HyperFlex reseller (Cisco sales or Cisco partner)
HX220c will come factory installed with ESXi 6.0 U2
vCenter would need to be already deployed on separate virtual environment (not running on HX)
Review the Release Notes for Cisco HX Data Platform, Release 1.8 for more information about HX
Refer to the HyperFlex Systems Getting Started Guide on deployment procedure

Hi Clifford,
Appreciate your support.
I am a little bit confused and need to arrange my thoughts regarding hyperflex.
why I need VMware license? can I use VMware as a trial just to deploy and test setup in my lab??.
you mentioned that HX220c will come factory installed with ESXi 6.0 U2. do I have to upgrade it and how? from FI?
I already mentioned what I am planning to use in terms of firmware. my plan is correct?
can you please validate this steps for me. is it correct or not.
1-physical installation/cabling (servers + FIs + upstream switch)
2-setup FI cluster.
3-Install Esxi (from where i can get this as trial, paste link if possible)
4-Install Vcenter (from where i can get this as trial, paste link if possible)
5-Install HX Installer
6- deploy new cluster
Awaiting your kind feedback.
thanks,

HX220c will come factory installed with ESXi - either Enterprise Plus or Foundation - nothing else
- Enterprise plus if you purchased that license from Cisco
- Foundation if you did not purchase a license from Cisco
NOTE: Foundation does not give you ANY features, you would have to supply your own license to enable features
If you don't intend to add a license, then you would need to reinstall ESXi with the HX ESXi custom image, so that it runs a trial version
You can download the ISO image here: HX software download
you mentioned that HX220c will come factory installed with ESXi 6.0 U2. do I have to upgrade it and how? from FI?
What version are you looking to upgrade to?
In the release notes, the highest version supported on 1.8.1f is 6.0 U2 Patch 3
See the section "Supported VMware vSphere Versions and Editions" in the following link: HyperFlex Release Notes, 1.8
I already mentioned what I am planning to use in terms of firmware. my plan is correct?
Yes, you're fine with 3.1(2c) for 1.8.1f
See section "HyperFlex Software Versions" in the release notes: HyperFlex Release Notes, 1.8
can you please validate this steps for me. is it correct or not.
1-physical installation/cabling (servers + FIs + upstream switch)
Ok
2-setup FI cluster.
OK
3-Install Esxi (from where i can get this as trial, paste link if possible)
ESXi factory installed already
Note: you cannot convert a C220 to an HX220 or vice versa
If you're just running a trial, then you would have to create a dummy service profile that you associate to the servers in order to reinstall the ESXi using the HX ESXi custom image
4-Install Vcenter (from where i can get this as trial, paste link if possible)
Download the trial version from VMware's website: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?productId=491&downloadGroup=VC60U2
NOTE: I found this by typing "Download vCenter 6.0 U2" at google.com search engine on any Web browser
You would need a VMware account to download it
Deploy vCenter on a pre-existing virtual environment (not on HyperFlex)
5-Install HX Installer
Follow the HX getting started guide: HyperFlex Getting Started Guide, 1.8
Be sure to go over the pre-install checklist: HyperFlex Pre-installation Guide
6- deploy new cluster
Done through the HX installer

Hi Clifford
When I rebuild, The VMware OEM License Key is gone, The link say Checklist ,re-install the oem license key will gone ......,
Do you know what is factory-installed oem license key is?
10-06-2016 09:44 AM
The OEM license key is obfuscated, since it is installed at manufacturing. For example 0N085-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-10LHH (Reference: Cisco HyperFlex Systems HX Data Platform Pre-Install Checklist)
Replacing ESXi OEM license keys for HyperFlex is handled by Cisco TAC
