1 STP instance

According to documentation I have seen, you can only have 1 spanning tree

within a VLAN. We currently use several 3550 switches in the same

management "VLAN1" and this is thew only VLAN created. I have a wired fault

tolerant solution running through 2 of the switches and SPT takes care of

the this. I want to add one more wired fault tolerant solution throuch 2 of

the other switches, but according to the information I received earlier, if

its ture, I have to created another VLAN to make this work.

Could any confirm this?

Hello,

not really sure if I understand your setup, but as long as the new switches run only VLAN 1, your spanning-tree instance for VLAN 1 should be sufficient. Which documentation are you referring to ?

Thanks for the fast reply, GP.

What I ment was that i believe it is not possible to have more that 1 redundant loop within all my 3550 standard image switches. This according to information that i cant find just now. From what i can remember, max 128 STP instances is possible but each has to be "created" on a different VLAN.

Im looking for people who can hopefully not confirm this.
