i am upgrading a few 2500s by adding 2x8MB Intel Flash in each. I get the following message upon booting the system:

%Error: System flash bank 1 chip 0 unknown, chip id 0xBA00 (reversed = 0x5D00)

%Error: System flash bank 1 chip 1 unknown, chip id 0xD05E (reversed = 0xB7A )

%Error: System flash bank 1 chip 2 unknown, chip id 0xFFFF (reversed = 0xFFFF)

%Error: System flash initialization failed

After the boot, if i attempt to load a new IOS, the Flash erase fails and the console prints: ERR: 'c2500-jk8os-l.122-1d.bin' open - device needs erasure

What am i missing? i went as far as replacing the boot rom chips with version 11.0 10c, still nada

The error message "Error: System flash bank 1 chip 0 unknown" usually means:

a. the flash simm board has gone faulty.

b. the flash simm board is not properly inserted.

c. the flash simm is not a Cisco approved simm.

From my experience, typically the problem is the flash is not properly seated.
