Hi,
Is there any way to increase the console port speed on the 2940 switches? I have had on two occasions now, had to load a new IOS via console/xmodem due to the extracted IOS from tar file not being copied in correctly (have verified that they were extracted along with other files but they aren't in flash after a reboot).
It takes over an hour at 9600 to get an image in, and as I found out last week, if my laptop 'sleeps', have to start all over again. On many other platforms one can increase console port speed to 57600 or so and have the transfer done a whole lot quicker.
Of course even if one ethernet port on the unit worked I could tftp an image in but .........
Thanks,
Reuben

Hi Reuben,
The Baud rate of the console port can be changed in two ways.
1) go to line console 0 and give speed command with the baud rate.
command-- speed 9600
I am not very sure whether this will work or not. Just have a try.
2) Otherwise you can change the Baud rate using CMS.
here is the link that will help you in changing it using CMS.
Best of Luck

Thanks for the reply but.... that's no use if the switch is sitting at it's flash: prompt after loading rommon and being unable to find an image! That's where I've gotten stuck twice recently :(

Hi,
If you are in ROMMON, you may be able to use confreg to change the baud rate.
If you enter confreg this will show you your current settings and at the bottom it will ask you if you want to change the configuration.
If you say yes, you should be able to change the console baud rate to 115200.

From memory the 2940 does not have a confreg command in ROMMON mode, nor does the confreg command show up in the output of 'help' :(
I'll check when I have access to a 2940 again in a day or so, but I'm pretty sure I've already checked for this...
Thanks anyway :)
